Got Endurance?

If you were given the option to run a 100 meter dash or a marathon, which would be your race of choice? I think I just sensed the abrupt and quick response of the majority, who declared 100 meter dash…and I’m co-signing with you. The mental toughness, stamina, and physical strength required to finish a 23 mile run is not something many of us have in reserve ready and willing to pour out. The average marathon runner intentionally prepares for the race ahead, altering their diet, consuming more healthy calories and hydrating their bodies with gallons of water in order to reach the optimum health level to conquer the nearly two dozen miles ahead.

Crossing the finish line doesn’t take seconds nor minutes, but hours. While pacing during the race, the runner has to endure aching muscles, extreme weather conditions, not to mention the hundred of other competitors in the race with them. Their level of motivation can go through highs and lows from one moment determined, only to turn the corner and see the intense incline ahead, then become doubtful. Just maybe you unknowingly registered and are running the marathon of your life. What you thought would be a breeze to attain is taking much longer to accomplish than you thought. Attaining your dreams of home ownership, restoration of broken relationships, physical healing, promotions, or even being able to conceive your first child, it may all seem like a great distance ahead and truth be told you want to stop in the middle of the race and throw in the towel.

If you want to cross that finish line, get the medal and reach your destiny, you will need to invest in an endurance pack. If you notice runners sometimes carry small packs of water that are easily accessible, strapped to their waists or arms. In the middle of the race when fatigue or thirst occurs, they are able to simultaneously take a sip and still run, drink and still be in motion towards their purpose. As a believer our endurance packs come through the word of God and intimate connection with God. When we know he is close, it is His love that gives us the extra push to believe we can make it across the finish line when doubt arises. When you recite and take a sip of the word “all of my help comes from the Lord” confidence is immediately injecting into you fuel tank for that extra boost so you can endure through the pain, endure through the disappointments, endure in being faithful, endure so the process in which you are going through can produce the necessary qualities within you.

The things God wants to do in your life will not be a cake walk, it might just take longer than anticipated, the journey will be a marathon and not a sprint. In knowing this you have to be equipped while on the journey trail and be willing to endure. Know that God will carry and push you all the way to the end.

One of the highlights from the women’s brunch were the amazing giveaways and guest gift bags filled with goodies such as L’Oréal lip glosses, eye makeup palates, coupons, and the April issue of In Style magazine. This is a special touch that I like to include, because every woman should be made to feel special. On my vision board this year is to launch of a scholarship fund because I believe the pursuit of higher education is vital. For that reason amazing donated prizes were raffled resulting in over $500 being raised.

As the day progressed empowering tunes such as “Not My Hair” and “Go Get It” were spun by the DJ. I was compelled to close out the event by sharing what some noted was a moving and empowering message that ignited the women’s faith to have limitless living, perceive life through “faith glasses” in order to reach your goals and understand that hope is the igniter to your faith! Women were moved to tears and action to live a life full of purpose.

The goal and mission behind  “The Power of Her Empowerment Brunch” is to provide an experience where women leave better than how they came, gain a clearer vision for their lives and pushed a step closer towards destiny. One thing is still true, empowered women empower women and that is an ingredient for great success.

Why Faith Matters

Have you ever seen the film “Groundhog Day”? groundhogdayI was around 10 years old when the movie made its debut on the big screen. It’s a comedy-drama film based on a story about Phil Connors, who plays an arrogant Pittsburgh TV weatherman who, during an assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event, finds himself in a time loop, repeating February 2, over and over again. After indulging in pleasure-seeking deeds and committing suicide several times, he finally begins to re-examine his life and priorities.

Each day plays out exactly as it did before, with no one but Phil aware of the time loop. At first he is confused, but, when the occurrences continue each day, he decides to take advantage of the situation with no fear of long-term consequences: he learns secrets from the town’s residents, seduces women, steals money, gets drunk, drives recklessly, and gets thrown in jail. Eventually, Phil becomes depressed and tries more and more drastically to end the time loop. He becomes tired of living the same limited life, not being able to expect more or experience new things.

More often than not, we too experience these same “Groundhog” days. Fear keeps us in a bubble of complacency, spending years in a horrible relationship which is destined to go nowhere. The opinions of others robs us from venturing into our secret passions to make our private dreams come true. This is why faith matter! Faith unlocks your imagination and forges you to believe your break-through is coming. Faith is the accelerator of your dream and the horsepower behind breaking the cycle of a predictable and boring life!

What I most appreciate about God is that, He doesn’t require us to possess a super-size amount of faith, He just says the size of a mustard seed. My husband teaches, and I echo his words, “The quantity of your faith determines the quality of your life.” Don’t wait until you are depressed and tired like Phil in the movie. I encourage you to invest in activating your faith and breaking the cycles that steal your days of destiny away. You cannot afford to live the same day over and over. You’ve got giants to slay, waters to walk on and a destiny to fulfill.
